Survey Background
One of the objectives of this website is to develop a resource for researchers and turf managers to collect and review data on Spring dead spot. It is often said that, information is power, and in this case, the more information turfgrass researchers have, the more power we will have in managing the destruction this disease causes.

This site is designed for you to input information about the incidence of Spring dead spot in your turf. A simple survey has been created that will provide you an opportunity to record data on sample measurements of Spring dead spot patches in your turf. As a participant in the study, you will be asked to log your control strategy (fungicide(s), rates, dates) for managing the disease this fall.

In the spring of 2006, when the disease symptoms would normally appear, you will be reminded to return to the area you measured the sample patches in 2005 and record the disease incidence after implementing your control program.

Over the course of the survey, Dr. Lane Tredway and Lee Butler of the Plant Pathology Department at NC State University, will be monitoring and evaluating the data submitted by the participants. The database created by the participants will assist their research regarding the geographic range of the disease, the probability of infection and the effectiveness of various control measures implemented by the survey participants.

All participant identification information will be kept confidential. You may enter as much or as little personal information as you are comfortable with. Once you sign in, you will be assigned a participant I.D. # that will be used to record and store your data. We ask you to include your state and zip code information so that the researchers can track the geographical range of the disease. Your e-mail address will be used to send a reminder message in the fall to record your control program and another reminder in the spring of 2006 to record your treatment results.

Beginning in the spring of 2006, we will present the results of the research findings on this website. The research results shared on this site will be in aggregate form with no identification of individual courses participating in the survey unless expressly directed by the participant that they want to share their information with the industry.

Remember, the more individuals participating in the survey, the more “eyes” and “ear” in the field, the more accurate and reliable the data will be for the industry. Please take a moment to enter your information and participate online.
